16.5.09… a day that'll go down in Indian history. First time after Nehru a PM is reelected to office after completing a full term in office. I can't believe I am part of this piece of history. Many a history are made these few years. We now have the first Black American President. We saw the Indian stock markets hitting the top circuits for the first time in history. 20% upward movement in a few seconds and the days trade was closed. People like us who are so used to hearing black Monday now heard a "GOLDEN" Monday. How many time do we get to hear positive news like that? Are we not privileged to be part of that history people?
The people of India are well informed, that's the first lesson that the leaders will get from this election. Indian people cannot be taken for a ride by either misleading attacks against top leaders or by religious extremism. The BJP put the building of Ram temple where Babri masjid was once, at the top of their election manifesto. If they lost it still, with hindus accounting for more than half of Indian population, I guess it's time for the BJP and other communal forces to realize that people in India do not bother religion as much as the hardliner Netas do. This election was a testimony to the Indian resolution that we will not let India go back to primitive ideologies and parties that support them. We need progress. A Better India than what we have now. A more progressive, futuristic, modern, freer India. And not a fundamentalist India. We do hope that the new UPA govt will be able to live up to the dreams of young Indians.
Of course Lalu Prasad Yadav is up to some joke every time. Days before the election he left the UPA alliance to form the fourth front. He realized it's a folly, post results and now he's trying all he can to get back a cabinet berth. Will he get it? In any case, we have the laugh as he tries hard for it.
What do I tell people who think Sonia Gandhi is a foreigner. Some of them also believe that Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka should be realized. So Tamilians in Sri Lanka are of the land and own the land. Here Sonia Gandhi who's a naturalized citizen and wife of a former PM, daughter in law to the iron lady of India and mother to two promising leaders of India is a foreigner. She has no business controlling Indian politics. If she chooses, she can go back to Italy (she could have... long back, with her kids) and live a very luxuriously comfortable western life. But she seems to prefer the dust and dirt of India to the posh beeches and resorts of Europe. She's leading India to the development that APJ Abdul Kalam dreamt - India will be a developed nation by 2020. Again It's gladdening to note that the people of India recognize what's good for India. An honest leader whose origin may be foreign over native netas who're bent on leading India to communal violence and the colonial tactic of divide and rule. The kind of divide that Indian leaders attempt is much more savage than the British tried. These are leaders who'd standby as one community goes on a rampage killing thousands from a different religion. Later it becomes an election propaganda. Lives merely sacrificed for the sake of an election win. Should we let them talk about anyone's nationality?
I like to add here a typical CPM reasoning. Ok .. Not now. I can actually make a separate blog of it. Even a complete loss is a verbal victory for a leftist supporter. I always find it amusing. Details later...
